Breakfast and departure for another day of visits to Angkor. The star of today will be Jayavarman VII, the most celebrated and praised the Kings under the command which, between the late twelfth and early thirteenth century, the Khmer empire reached its maximum expansion and influence both political and cultural. The era of Jayavarman VII also marks a fundamental transition from Hinduism to Mahayana Buddhism and the spiritual is the latter form of worship that are dedicated his great monasteries.
Among these great Rajavihara, now known by the generic name of Ta Phrom, famous among
the international tourists because it is where they filmed Tomb Raider. Ta Phrom was chosen as the place of example to show the world the state in which Angkor was found. Even today, huge trees supporting the walls of the monastery and their powerful roots insinuate themselves between the spaces of massive blocks of sandstone to form a mystical marriage between art, nature and history.
Further west will meet in rapid succession a series of buildings of great interest including the colossal ruins of the "temple mountain now known as Ta Keo, unfinished by its builders, and two small temples" flat "in Angkor Wat style, similar and of immense beauty and the Thommanon Chao Sai Tewoda.
Finally we will at the Angkor Thom, the giant walled city which will be accessed from the "Victory Gate". Inside is "the Terrace of the Elephants" and the "Terrace of Leper King," fully sculpted with beautiful carvings made out of five superimposed records!
The geometric center of the 'Angkor Thom lies the Temple of State instead of the great King Jayavarman VII, the famous "Bayon", known worldwide for its numerous towers on which are carved the gigantic stone faces.
Further north is the huge monastery Nagarajayasri Instead, the "lucky city that brings victory." Dedicated to the father of the King, the whole was fortified and defended by a high wall and encircled by a wide channel through four bridges adorned with snakes "Naga".
Today the complex is known as Preah Khan and its symbolic importance is underscored by the construction, along the same longitudinal axis of the artificial lake Jayatataka the
center of which were laid "spa" today known as the Neak Pean.
